Discover the Top 10 Experiences for 2020

The Top 10 Travel Experiences for 2020

Let’s face it, what makes a vacation go from good to great isn’t so much the destination, but rather what you do while there. When I went with my dad and sister on a ski trip the year before I lost my eyesight it wasn’t the town of Snowshoe, West Virginia that I remember. What I do remember in vivid detail however, 18 years later, is the last day of our trip when I finally built up enough courage to take on Widowmaker, the Black Diamond run that had been challenging me all week long. When I think back to that trip it hits me right in the heart… what a blessing God gave me knowing what was to happen less than a year later. But the most important thing I want to convey in telling you that story is that even today, all these years later and no longer able to see I still have that memory which I can see with perfect vision.

A memory is something that never goes away, never expires, never leaves your heart and mind. A memory is made from the experiences had, so let me give you a list of 10 experiences you can’t afford to miss!

This list has been created by Virtuoso, the leading global network of agencies specializing in luxury and experiential travel. Through my affiliation with the Gifted Travel Network I am fortunate enough to be part of this network of luxury travel advisors. Virtuoso only works with the very best companies in the world to ensure that every trip we, the travel advisors, design is going to be out of this world. Without further adeu I present to you “The Top 10 Experiences for 2020”!

1. Go surfing at Sydney’s Bondi Beach

Bondi Beach is extremely popular with locals and visitors alike. Serious surfers hang out at the southern end of the beach, while novices occupy the northern stretch, where waves are often smaller. So, grab a board and Hang Ten!

2. Head to Tokyo for the 2020 Olympics

Quite possibly one of the hottest things happening in 2020 is the Summer Olympics! Taking place July 24 to August 9 the Olympic games will take over this rapidly trending destination. When not watching your favorite athlete compete for gold you can explore Japan’s unique scenery, bustling cities, culinary delights and rich culture.

3. Witness the Great Migration

Fulfill an item at the top of many people’s bucket list with a trip to Tanzania and Kenya for the Great Migration. Watch as millions of zebras, wildebeest and antelope traverse the landscape while attempting to elude predators all in attempt at reaching the rich fertile lands full of food and water.

4. Live like a local in Italy

For many, it’s not enough to visit a destination as a tourist, they want to experience it as if they were a local. Visitors to Italy can fully immerse themselves in the lifestyle of the country. You can rent a private villa, become a local at the neighborhood espresso bar, learn the language, take cooking classes to perfect the technique at making homemade pasta.

5. Supporting the Bahamas after the effects of Hurricane Dorian

Grand Bahama and the Abaco Islands suffered dramatic devastation as the result of a direct hit by Hurricane Dorian. The Bahamas rely heavily on tourism which comprises 60% of the nation’s economy. That is why there is such a push to get people back visiting the Bahamas as revenue from visitors boost recovery efforts. Fortunately, many of the hotels, restaurants, and activities have already re-opened on Grand Bahama; the Abacos are unfortunately expected to take more time.

6. Take a flight around the world via private jet

You can country-hop in style with an on-board crew assisting with your every need, while also bypassing commercial airports. Yep, forget about those long security lines and the annoying kid kicking the back of your seat. And yes, I can arrange such luxurious treatment just for you.

7. Explore Antarctica

The continent was voted the top adventure destination in Virtuoso’s 2020 Luxe Report, proving that cold-weather spots are hot. Go kayaking with humpback whales, ooh and aah at the penguins, and be one with the destination with a dip in the freezing waters.

8. Cruise through the Panama Canal

This engineering marvel is on the bucket list of many travelers. It will take a day to traverse the 50 miles of locks as your cruise ship makes its way from ocean to ocean.

9. Enjoy a vacation on the rails

Prepare to have the majesty of the Canadian Rockies presented to you during your journey aboard the incomparable Rocky Mountaineer. Gaze in wonder at the beauty of your surroundings through the glass-dome coaches. Enjoy local cuisine and learn about natural and historic sites along the way.

10. Venture to an uninhabited island in Tonga

If looking for the ultimate unplugged escape, this is it. This Polynesian kingdom comprises 140 islands without residents. It features a wonderfully temperate climate and untouched tropical scenery. You can soak up the sun on a picturesque beach, snorkel in crystal-clear waters, and even set off exploring the jungle.

And with that, you have Virtuoso’s list of the Top 10 Experiences for 2020! What do you think? Was there anything I just told you about that got you excited? Personally, if I was to choose, I’d combine the private jet around the world with a stop over in Sydney, Australia for a quick surfing lesson before making my way to Africa to feel the thunder in my chest from herds of wildlife running by. I say, why pick one off the list when you can have it all?

Whether it’s Virtuoso’s list, or your own, I would love to help make your dream come true in 2020. All it takes is a simple reply to this message to start the conversation. The year is waiting, get out and experience it for yourself!
