Why Africa Must Be #1 On Your Bucket List!

“Africa changes you forever, like nowhere on Earth. Once you have been there, you will never be the same. But how do you begin to describe its magic to someone who has never felt it? How can you explain the fascination of this vast, dusty continent, whose oldest roads are elephant paths?”

…Brian Jackman

Africa is a continent of true beauty with unique and beautiful landscapes, wilderness, diverse wildlife, rich history, down-to-earth people, and deeply rooted culture and many geographical wonders. A wise man, Richard Mullin, said,

The only man I envy is the man who has not yet been to Africa – for he has so much to look forward to.”

Africa is so unlike any other part of the world with its unrivaled beauty, and that’s why everyone, especially great lovers of adventure, must-visit Africa at least once in their lifetime. Bucket List worthy experiences are commonplace in Africa.

Gorilla Trekking

You can have a close-up and personal encounter with the beautiful gorillas in Uganda. Trekking through the thick jungle you will begin your search for these magical creatures. When you finally see one or more gorillas, it is simply a humbling experience. You will find it to be absolutely breathtaking, seeing a gorilla in its natural habitat. You’ll notice these astonishing primates’ intelligence and their domineering size. The size of a gorilla, especially the male silverback, will engender awe in you.

You will want to have your best camera ready to take as many pictures as you can of this incredible experience. Your time spent with the gorillas will be one of those moments that remain with you forever.

Witness the Great Migration

You can watch the Great Migration, one of the wonders of the natural world, in Kenya’s Masai Mara Reserve. This is simply an incredible event to experience, more like watching the animated movie, The Lion King, in real life. Over a million wildebeest with zebras and gazelles start their dangerous journey to the grasslands of southern Africa every year. These colossal herds migrate about a thousand miles during the Great Migration in a single year.

As they say, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a step or in this case, a brave wildebeest. The whole herd stampedes through the crocodile-infested waters. Some fall and get injured, some try to develop a strategy to avoid the sharp jaws of the crocodiles. Some get unlucky and end up as food for the fearsome predators while the others may successfully get to the other side. These lucky ones get to the endless grasslands and therefore, are rewarded with many months’ worth of food for them to enjoy. When their food source is depleted, they will repeat the whole perilous journey again, in search of greener pastures. You can watch this amazing experience unfold in your safari vehicle.

Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls is one of the seven wonders of the natural world and is a great destination for adventure lovers. The waterfall is located on the Zimbabwe-Zambia border. You can enjoy some thrilling and adrenaline-charged activities here such as bungee jumping, batoka gorge swings, white water rafting, microlight flights, and swimming in the Devil’s Pool.

The Devil’s Pool is a famous spot for those who want to feel the adrenaline rush in their systems. You can actually hang over the edge of the falls and gaze at the abyss at the depth of 103m below. This experience is every bit as mind-boggling as it sounds. You can be assured this once-in-a-lifetime experience is absolutely worth being added to your African itinerary.

Go on Safari in Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park is one of the most popular wildlife refuges in the world with one of the oldest ecosystems in the world. It is located in northern Tanzania and transcends into the south-western part of Kenya. You can see the diverse wildlife especially the African’s Big Five mammals and more than 500 bird species. This is a great destination for nature lovers as you view the unique landscapes, endless plains, buffalo herds, and many more.

There are various things to do in Serengeti National Park such as wildlife viewing, hot air ballooning, walking safaris, luxury camping under the stars, picnicking, and so on. You can also plan your trip so you can watch the Great Migration and view predators like lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas. The most amazing thing about this national park is definitely the wildlife.

Africa has evolved over the years from being just a dark continent. It is a continent filled with raw and untainted natural beauty, interesting people and so much adventure. It is more than the stories that you have been told. You need to visit the continent and tell of your adventures with others.
